And my scar got gnarly and infected a few days after the surgery and they had to OPEN IT UP AGAIN AND DRAIN IT. My recommendation would be to listen to your doc and if they think that you need pain medication, you probably do...especially if it is interfering with your ability to enjoy/survive this time...
